Homes were different,
not so long ago . . .
everyone took the time
to stop and say hello.
Dad went to work,
everyday eight to five
mom stayed at home
to flourish and thrive.
She made breakfast,
served it at the table
all gave thanks to God
for their morning staple.
Off to the school bus,
the children all went
and if they had to walk
there was no argument.
They bowed their heads,
in class rooms they’d pray
to God and their country
giving their allegiance away.
When school time was over,
homework was done
and when daddy got home
he played ball with his son.
Mom and her daughter,
prepared the family supper
when they were all finished
the kids helped with the clutter.
The family all gathered,
after the dishes were done
to talk about their day
or play games to have fun.
Off to bed they would go,
mom still tucked them all in
she listened to her children
confess to God their sin.
Life is very different,
today in our homes . . .
now that everyone has
their own cell-phones!

Cell phones, Televisions, etc. But the Air Conditioner was another both blessing and hindrance to family/neighborhood life. Before Air Conditioning, families all went outside after dinner to cool off, neighbors were all out too, people knew eachother, their neighbors, and socialized. With Air conditioning, the family now stays indoors on hot summer days, both a blessing- family is more comfortable, and a hindrance- few know their neighbors anymore…

So true. My husband and I just move and a young neighbor came over to say hi. He said that the people who lived here before he never really met and would only wave to. Since we have been here he has been over a number of times to sit with us out back and talk. One day he came up and said “I just wanted to let you know how nice it is to have neighbors who come outside!
