Sticks and stones,
indeed break bones
but, names still hurt
when they are thrown.
Hot, fiery words,
meant to cause pain
for years and years
the flames remain.
Bones they mend,
bones they heal
but, names poison
the way we feel.
They penetrate,
deep, so deep
wounded souls
weep and weep.
Before you cast,
an angry word
think of the ones
you too have heard.
For sticks might break,
stones can miss their mark
but names, oh names . . .
always hits ~ the heart!

James 3:6
King James Version
“And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity:
so is the tongue among our members,
that it defileth the whole body,
and setteth on fire the course of nature;
and it is set on fire of hell.”
