Sometimes when we pray,
we want an instant result
and if we do not get it . . .
we take it as an insult.
So we become disillusioned,
for many of us think
that the chain of prayer
is some kind of magic link.
But, God isn’t a genie,
who grants our every wish
nor a leprechaun with a pot . . .
of gold to make us rich.
Instead, we must be diligent,
and in our prayers persevere
not letting our disappointment
with God’s stillness to interfere.
Sometimes when we pray,
we want answers instantly
so if God has you waiting . . .
do so ever patiently!

I’ve felt the hand of disappointment,
slap me across the face
I’ve handled discouragement
without finesse and grace.
I’ve felt the sting of rejection,
burn from head to toe
I’ve handled the loneliness
by hiding in my own shadow.
I’ve felt the weight of despair,
hanging heavy on my heart
I’ve handled the agony
in ways not always smart.
I’ve felt the pain of self-loathing,
like a deadly cancer spread
I’ve handled the mockery
by repeating what others said.
I have felt the hand of God,
touch my life within . . .
now I am only disappointed
if I don’t spend time with Him!

Psalm 42:11
” Why art thou cast down,
O my soul? and why art thou
disquieted within me?
hope thou in God:
for I shall yet praise him,
who is the health of my
countenance, and my God.”

Disappointments come,
into every one’s life . . .
some we can push aside
others cause inside strife.
They have many shapes,
but, with the same face
for, hopelessness knows
it’s all about the chase.
They can poke around,
or hit straight in the gut
for, depression only wants
you wallowing in its rut.
They come in many forms,
but, with the same attitude
making singing the blues
almost impossible to elude.
Into every one’s life,
comes disappointment . . .
but, I have found God’s Word
to be failure’s curing ointment!

When all hope,
has gone out of you
when the sea ahead
turns a raging blue.
Hold on to Jesus,
let Him be your light
and the waves of depression
He will help you fight.
When all desire,
has gone out of you
when the storm you’re in
obscures your eternal view.
Hold on to Jesus,
let Him be your Rock
and the winds of adversity
He will begin to block.
When all hope and desire,
has gone out of you . . .
you’ll not be discouraged
if Jesus you hold onto!

We all have our giants,
that we must defeat . . .
some of them seem small
some appear at least ten feet.
Some come in the forms,
of bills and unemployment
others approach us with
doubt and discouragement.
Some attack us with panic,
despair and depression
others advance on us
with fear and repression.
Some scream at us,
we are good for nothing
some shout in God
we aren’t very trusting.
We all have our giants,
that we need to overcome
but with God’s power . . .
to them we needn’t succumb!

When discouragement comes,
knocking on your door
you can be sure of this . . .
it’ll knock you to the floor.
It wants to pull the rug,
out from what you believe
discouragement knows . . .
it brings spiritual fatigue.
Discouragement is aware,
of each move you make
it wants to stop the steps
of faith that you take.
It wants to rob the hope,
that lives inside of you
discouragement will distort
what you know to be true.
Discouragement will cause,
spiritual wear and tear . . .
so when it comes knocking
give Jesus, its burden to bear!

When sorrow greets me,
upon the break of day
I know God’s love . . .
will take the pain away.
For His loving-kindness,
when I am heartbroken
is filled with the promise
I’ll not be left forsaken.
When I’m discouraged,
before depression sets in
I think about God’s love
living steadfast within.
For His kind-heartedness,
is my souls retreat . . .
where my faith and trust
is made in Him, complete.
When my head I lay down,
at the end of the day . . .
I sing praises to my Lord
for the love He sent my way!

Life is full of storms,
valleys plenty deep
no wonder we need . . .
a Good Shepherd’s keep.
With so much uncertainty,
every day that we face
no wonder we need . . .
a sufficient supply of grace.
Our fears can be numerous,
our worries limitless
no wonder we need . . .
God’s mercy, measureless.
With various challenges,
we daily go through
no wonder we need . . .
God’s strength, each day anew.
So often we’re discouraged,
lost in all the confusion
no wonder we need . . .
the Holy Spirit’s infusion.
Life is full of storms,
winds so unexpected
no wonder we need to keep . . .
our eyes, heavenly directed!
