Lord, give me a broken spirit,
one in itself no esteem
one who knows for its sins
only You can redeem.
Let it see it has no worth,
how it is totally wretched
how that for its salvation
to You it’s wholly indebted.
Bring it down to its knees,
let it see its fallen state
so it may find the way
through the narrow gate.
Let it know how bankrupt,
it would be if not for You
how only You can save it
not what it thinks it can do.
Lord give me a broken spirit,
a heart that is contrite
so I may be to You . . .
a sight of pure delight!
~~~~~~~~
The sacrifices of God are a
broken spirit: a broken and
a contrite heart, O God, thou
wilt not despise.
