About Deborah Ann

I love the Lord with all my heart and soul. TULIP (for theology), but most importantly Christ in my place. Yeah, but you’re right, heresies so close to the truth are creeping in. Having said all this though, it was all alive to me once. Him living the life I never lived and dying the death that I deserved and having the wrath of God poured out on Him. The Lord granted me repentance, gave me faith and put love in my heart, but things went terribly wrong and like William Cowper I’ve never been the same.

Yes, there are many heresies out there today but, they have been with us for centuries and will continue to grow as the time draws closer to Jesus’ return. I am not familiar with William Cowper. I will have to google him but, please explain what “went terribly wrong” means as this isn’t something I hear from those who have had a changed heart. ~ Praying you will have a blessed day with our Lord and Savior ~

William Cowper was a close friend of John Newton. He began as a secular poet who later became a hymnodist. God granted him repentance and faith in an asylum where they admitted him because of suicidal depression. He soon recovered, met Newton, and wrote some beautiful hymns. God moves in a mysterious way, and There is a fountain filled with blood are two examples. He even collaborated with Newton. Soon after that, he had a dream in which he heard the words, “Actum est de te, periisti” (It is all over with thee, thou hast perished) and stopped going to church and praying. He did remain a Christian and satirized heresies like the defense of polygamy that somebody put forward because of rampant prostitution, but believed that he was a reprobate. He attempted suicide many times but never succeeded. He continued correspondence with Newton and lived with a widow whom he considered his mother. He, however, died in misery. Let’s just say my story is somewhat similar to his, although I’m far worse a sinner than him. God granted me repentance, faith and put love in my heart for Christ when I first became a Christian two years ago. I was 27 then. God took His grace away after I sinned, and I thought I had committed the unpardonable sin. Now my sin happened as a result of bad advice from a Reformed Pastor of all people. Still, sin is sin. But after two years God restored me, but He took his grace away again and this time in a terrifying fashion similar to Cowper’s. Two theologians who have helped shaped my theology and have given me some answers through their sermons are David Martyn Llyod-Jones and John Piper. Both aren’t standard Reformed theologians and are not cessationists, but I adhere to their way of interpreting things more than people like John McArthur (whom I respect). Now trust me, I’m no charismatic! In fact, I loathe most of the bizarre practices of the Pentecostal Church. And I’m also not an emotionalist, but I do believe that loving God is not obeying God. Love is a religious affection and the first fruit of the Holy Spirit from which all the others proceed. You obey God because you love Him. Today that love in my heart is cold. I also believe in the Baptism of the Holy Spirit which does not necessarily result in talking in tongues. Both Llyod-Jones and Piper preach it. I know that some people say that it creates a two class Christianity, which is a valid point, but that’s my only answer for the fact that many Christians are so powerless today.

Clay, I have been praying for you all week and I do hope that you will not give up and that you will let the Holy Spirit restore to you your first love. I pray He will rekindle the fires of your passion towards Jesus the hope, the joy, the peace, the love that you felt at first and let them bring your heart renewal. Jesus wants nothing more to bring you back into the place where He can turn all your sins as white as snow. I have learned to never under estimate the power of the blood of Jesus!

Deborah, thank you so much. I still know that Christ is the only truth there is and pray that I’ll never forget it. But I’ll say this: God choosing to revive a backslider is pure grace. Samson did atrocious things, but God gave him grace just before he died. Saul, on the other hand, did not receive that grace and took his own life, even though the Bible distinctly mentions that God gave him a new heart in the beginning. Mark deserted Paul, but God restored him. Paul calls Demas a fellow worker, but he deserted him, and God didn’t restore him. Some say these men who fell away were just pretending, but I do not think so. I believe that they received grace for a period. People forget that God gave Judas grace to cast out demons and to heal the sick. I think this withdrawal of grace is the true interpretation of Hebrews 6:4-6. A lot of men ask me to push or try harder, but how can I when the Word of God isn’t alive to me anymore, when my prayers are mechanical and when my heart is chasing after other things? God still gives me the grace to not live like a filthy hedonist, but he needs to put love in my heart like that Keith Green song says. I’m not a hyper-Calvinist, but I’ve learned the hard way that even if I were to pray, attend church and read, without the grace of God it would mean nothing. I’ll just be a hypocrite. So, I request you to pray that God gives me grace. Also whenever God cures me of backsliding, even though the affection and will are present, my mind is not sound. I get blasphemous thoughts and other irrational, legalistic ideas. So, pray that God gives me a sound mind too. I hope I’m not burdening you. And my real name is not Clay! That’s just a pseudonym I use because I’m a private person.

Clay, I have written your name in my prayer book and will be asking the Lord to restore in you your love for Him and His word. I will pray that the power of the Holy Spirit will bring about a genuine renewal in your life.

I know how satan can capture our thoughts and I am reminded of 1 Peter 5:8
“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” So I will be praying that Jesus will be the one that captures your thoughts instead. Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

I respect that you are a private person and that you use the name Clay . . . which brings me to my last scriptures and point.

              Isaiah 64:8
But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.

              2 Corinthians 4:7
But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.
I think you choosing the name Clay as a pseudonym is interesting. I believe God is letting you know He is still molding you and He has the power to change you at any given moment. He is letting you know He is still working in your life, molding something new into your life right now. I believe our Heavenly Father the Potter can turn even the most evil people in this world into one of His treasures. I believe Jesus can transform even the hardest of hearts into one that flows with living-waters. I believe the Holy Spirit has the power to renew, restore and rebuild the life of those who have fallen away from the True Vine.

With all that said . . . I pray God will cut out the cold, stony heart you have for His Word, for His Life, Truth and Way for His Light and give you a heart of flesh! In Jesus name I pray . . . AMEN and AMEN!
