Free Indeed ~

he-set-the-captives-free CHRISTian poetry by deborah ann

He sets the captive free,
from the blindness within
releases the binds of guilt
the shamefulness of our sin.

He loosens the chains,
makes love out of hate
unshackles our burdens
eases the heavy weight.

He heals the backslidden,
freedom is now in sight
the yoke of oppression
we no longer have to fight

He scours out the darkness,
in His light, there is power
with grace and mercy
our lives, He empowers.

No longer are we slaves,
to man and his laws
now we come before God
with holy fear and awe.

Oh, what a privilege,
no longer are we bound
free indeed at last . . .
our liberty in Jesus found!

I love this Deb… I am no longer a slave to man and HIS laws… What joy and freedom there is in this knowledge. God has called me to be a woman after His heart, seeking HIS will for my life, but sometimes we get so caught up in trying to please man… in doing what is expected of us… in trying to win pastor’s approval… in quenching the Spirit within you, because it makes others uncomfortable… But it is for freedom that Christ set us free.

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and rethinking lately, beloved Sister, and your poem just brought things into focus. As much as I love ministry, it means nothing if I don’t cultivate my relationship with the Lord. I keep hearing pastors say that you can’t be a good leader if you’re not willing to follow, and I agree — up to a point… You see, many of those who make these comments have controlling spirits, and they tell you this because they want to control you… This is not of Christ.

And then, there is the question of who you are following… I don’t become a good leader by following someone with a controlling spirit, because then I become a controlling leader, and this must not be… The only ONE I should truly follow hard after is Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. If I seek His face… if I humble myself under the mighty hand of God and walk in humble submission to HIM, as I serve HIM, rather than submitting myself to a controlling spirit, He will lead me on the right path…

I’m sorry to ramble, but the Lord has really spoken to me through your poem, answering a prayer that I’ve been lifting up for a few months now. Thank you for your faithfulness in sharing your gift, and thank you so much for sharing this word from the Lord with me today.

    Love always,
    Cheryl

Cheryl, I am so blessed to know you have been blessed by this poem . . . You are so correct in all you have said and I will stand with you in prayer that “He will lead me on the right path” we must not let our hearts be led by man, but by the Holy Spirit who leads us unto all truths. ~ May the Lord continue to bless you ministry ~
