I saw the look of bitterness,
staring at me in the face
it held no compassion
nor any mercy or no grace.
It’s beady, steely eyes,
look right past my soul
making it clear to me
resentment was its goal.
I could see into the gaze,
of someone who can’t forgive
and the cause of the problem
how they constantly relive.
They say if looks could kill,
right now I’d be dead . . .
for the look of bitterness
has an evil, toxic head.
Bitterness is a sin,
destructive in every way
its roots need to be destroyed
for hearts and souls are its prey!

Hebrews 12:15
King James Version
“Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God;
lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you,
and thereby many be defiled;”

This poem is so very true. I recently experienced the violence that comes from bitterness and your poem sums that up for me.

Yes, bitterness is the root of much violence both physically and mentally. If people were to find forgiveness, they would be able to hand God over the bitterness and be healed from the past. ~ Blessings ~

This is so true, and I’m ashamed to confess I was stuck there for too much of my life. But I’m free now.

I don’t like when I am feeling bitterness or resentment . . it is so ugly. I try, TRY, to give it to the Lord as soon as I see it’s ugly head coming out in me. I mentally move past whatever brought it to my mind and ask the Lord to take the thought away. 95% of the time it works the other 5% is just Satan reminding me he is still after me. Praise the Lord, my God wins! Amen and Amen!!
