There’s a cost in following Jesus,
and not everyone will go along
there’s a price to be paid
and it’ll cost us our whole lifelong.
There’s a non-negotiable term,
that we need to be prepared to make
there are personal expenditures
that comes with an even higher stake.
There’s a cost in following Jesus,
and it doesn’t come from our pocket-book
there’s a price to be paid . . .
and it’s one too many of us over look.
There’s a charge that Jesus makes,
if we are to follow and go with Him
there’s a fee that He asks from us
and we can’t pay it on a whim.
There’s a cost in following Jesus,
and we’ll repay it our whole lifelong
for we must give up EVERYTHING
if we truly want to go along . . .
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Then said Jesus unto his disciples,
If any man will come after me,
let him deny himself,
and take up his cross, and follow me.
I am Director of a non-profit, Connect Missions. Just discovered your site and love your poems. Would it be possible for me to re-post this poem, and others (from time to time) on my wordpress blog? I would, of course, link the posts to your site.
Please let me know.
Thank you,
Adam
The beauty of giving everything to Him is that He either sanctifies it and gives it back – or gives us something so much better!
God bless you. Not many of us remember the price to be paid. Many think it is all a bed of roses and that Christ owes us a lot for following him. Oh that men’s eyes were open and they’d consider their end.
It is something that I am reminded of daily. Though grace is a free gift, not earned by works, deeds or needs . . . I am required to give Him my life in its fullness in complete utter surrender . . . it is a process and I am determined to get to the end of it. May the Lord shine this truth to those who are left blind by the darkness of this world. Amen and Amen and God bless you Emerald!
Sounds a lot like Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who wrote THE COST OF DISCIPLESHIP. Being a believer is free, covered by grace. It is free to us because Jesus paid everything. To be a true disciple of Christ, it costs us everything, as you stated in the poem. I totally identify with every word. Good job!
Amen Daryl, our free gift comes at no price to us in the sense we cannot earn it, but if we are true followers of Jesus we must be in completer surrender to Him. I love Absolute Surrender by Andrew Murray . . . and read it often it is a constant reminder to me how much more I need to give the Lord . . . ~ Blessings ~
